On 8 October, AKEBI invites you to a screening of Ziazan, a short film by Derya Durmaz, followed by a conversation with the filmmaker and Dr. Öndercan Muti.
Ziazan (Armenia/Turkey, 2014, 15 min.) tells the story of four-year-old Armenian girl Ziazan, who one day decides to go on an adventure. She wants to sneak from Armenia into Turkey inside her uncle’s luggage. But with the border between the two countries closed, will she be able to cross it and realise her adventure?
Through the story of a child, the film approaches the Armenia–Turkey border and the consequences of its closure. What might seem like a simple adventure for a four-year-old becomes a journey shaped by a border that separates two neighbouring countries.
The screening will be followed by a conversation with Derya Durmaz and Dr. Öndercan Muti, moderated by Tamar Sarkissian. We will talk about the film, Armenia–Turkey relations, and the current process of normalisation.
